Billing Q&A

Question: What is the Medicare deductible for the year?
Answer: The Medicare deductible starts every year on January 1st. This year it is $161.

Question: Do we take any of the Medicare Advantage Plans?
Answer: No. We take only traditional Medicare.

Question: In which Medicare insurance supplements does SMG participate?
Answer: We accept any of the Medigap plans that are designed to be supplements to Medicare, like AARP’s. We file to all secondary Medicare insurance companies. If they don't pay the 20% that is the patient's responsibility after Medicare pays, then we bill the patient.

Question: What is a copay billing fee on my bill?

Answer:  It’s a $10 fee that will be charged if your copay is not paid on the date of service.

Question: Why didn’t my insurance pay for the Vitamin D blood test that was done during my physical?
Answer: The Vitamin D blood test is often done as part of the routine physical exam. Some insurance companies do not consider it part of a physical.

Question: Can I have radiological procedures at the office if I have Cigna Open Access?
Answer: No. Your radiological procedures get billed to AIM under Cigna Open Access. We don’t have a contract with that portion of Cigna. Therefore, they will not pay for any radiological procedures done in the office.

Question: Does Medicare pay for immunizations?
Answer: There are very few immunizations that Medicare will pay for. Tetanus shots are never paid for, unless there is a wound.
