Hospitalist Services
A relatively new specialist, the hospitalist is a fully qualified physician whose practice is limited to the care of in-hospital patients. In the past, general internists would care for their patients both in the office and in the hospital. With the increasing complexity of hospital-based care, and the increasing time required by office-based practice, the Scarsdale Medical Group launched its hospitalist program in 2008. This service provides patients with doctors who spend all their time in the hospital, allowing them to respond to emergency situations promptly and to afford our patients bedside attention as often as necessary. Unlike typical hospitalist programs across the nation, in which the hospitalist is a hospital employee, our program uses two full-time doctors that are Scarsdale Medical Group members, selected by us because of their expertise and training. They provide day-long personal attention and continuity of care for our patients. The doctors of the Scarsdale Medical Group communicate regularly with our hospitalist colleagues to address the acute and chronic issues that arise in our hospitalized patients.
