Sofia Nigar, MD

Sofia Nigar, MD earned her medical degree from JSS Medical College in Mysore, India. Dr. Nigar completed her residency in internal medicine at The Brooklyn Hospital Center, a clinical affiliate of Mount Sinai Hospital. She was subsequently chosen to serve as Chief Resident. Dr. Nigar continued her training at The Brooklyn Hospital Center and went on to complete a fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology. She is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr. Nigar’s interest in clinical research lead her to work as a postdoctoral research scientist in clinical liver transplantation research at Columbia University Medical Center. She has written and contributed to many publications that focused on various topics on gastroenterology and overall health.

Dr. Nigar is interested in all aspects of general gastroenterology with special interest in colon cancer screening and prevention as well as women’s gastrointestinal health.
